PCMs can be either organic or inorganic materials. Advantages of organic PCMs include no corrosives, low or no undercooling, and chemical and thermal stability. Disadvantages include low phase-change enthalpy, low thermal conductivity, and flammability.
Inorganic PCMs are salt hydrates. The advantages of these materials are: high latent heat values, non-flammable, low-cost and readily available.
CIMC FinePE to offer independently development PCMs with wide temperature range from the -22℃~995℃.
What is the advantage of using inorganic/salt-based PCM packs over the organic/bio-based in thermal shippers?
Due to higher density, salt-based PCM pack will take lesser space in the insulated shipper than organic PCM pack, providing the same, if not longer, temperature control.
Comparing to organic/bio PCMs, salt-based PCM pack creates higher payload/volume ratio for the same outer dimensions of a shipper and under the same temperature controlling conditions.
